Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is the application of passive movement to tissues by hand either within a 'mobilisation' or beyond its active range of movement 'manipulation'. Manual therapy includes a range of techniques such as massage, myofascial release, trigger point release and joint mobilisations. These techniques aim to improve muscle function, increase range of motion, induce relaxation and alleviate areas of restriction and tension if tolerated and appropriate. Massage helps to relieve areas of tension or soreness as well as stimulating soft tissues to help encourage blood flow and waste removal of toxins built up from exercise. Joint mobilisations and stretches can also be applied to increase flexibility and suppleness.
